Suhakam to monitor Sabah polls beginning today

SABAH POLLS | The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) will monitor the state snap election from today until the polling day on Sept 26.

In a statement, the commission said it will share its initial findings with the public on Sept 27.

According to Suhakam, a team of 30 people will conduct the monitoring in at least a dozen state constituencies "on the basis of human rights principles and democratic standards."

"Suhakam had conducted election monitoring in Malaysia including the 14th general election in May 2018.

"With experience from previous election monitoring, Suhakam's team, comprising around 30 persons including commissioners, staff and volunteers, will conduct the monitoring in a number of state constituencies in Sabah," the statement read.

The constituencies include Matunggong, Bandau, Karambunai, Darau, Kepayan, Moyog, Membakut, Kuala Penyu, Sook, Nabawan, Gum-Gum, Sungai Manila, Kemabong, Melalap, Bugaya, Sulabayan, Senallang, Kukusan, Tanjung Batu, Pantai Dalit, Sulaman, Inanam, and Api-Api.

Suhakam welcomed tip-off from voters about any form of violation of election regulations during the state election process. They may do so by contacting its Sabah office at 088-317405 or 019-324 5650. - Mkini
