Covid-19: Three new EMCO zones in Kudat, Labuan CMCO extended to Nov 13

Three new enhanced movement control order (MCO) zones in Kudat district in Sabah have been declared, while the existing conditional movement control order in Labuan has been extended to Nov 13.

Senior Minister (Security) Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced this in his daily briefing, saying that the Sabah state government had highlighted an increase in the number of positive cases in Kampung Pengaraban, Kampung Tanjung Kapor and Kampung Landung Ayang in the Kudat district.

"Taking into account the increase in cases in these three localities, and on the advice of the Health Ministry, we have agreed to implement the enhanced MCO in all three localities from Oct 30 to Nov 12," he said.

The enhanced MCO for these three localities covers a total of 2,393 housing units houses with a total of 13,884 residents, he added.

"The enhanced MCO SOP is the same as previously announced. However, grocery stores are allowed to operate from 6am to 6pm to allow residents to buy basic necessities," said Ismail.

He also said that the conditional MCO that was declared from Oct 12 to Oct 30 in the Federal Territory of Labuan is now set to be extended to Nov 13.

"The MOH is still continuing the targeted screening, and until now there are still positive cases detected. Therefore, on the advice of the MOH, we will extend the conditional MCO to Nov 13," said Ismail.

Meanwhile, Ismail echoed the Health Ministry's advice for the NGOs in Sabah to coordinate their assistance to the people with the ministry.

"A lot of areas in Sabah have turned into a red zone, we don't know where and who is the carrier of the virus.

"So, I hope, to take care of their (volunteers) safety, they need to meet the Health Ministry to seek advice before distributing aid in any area in Sabah.

"If possible, please meet the disaster management committee too to coordinate food distribution to avoid duplication," he said.

Yesterday, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said NGO volunteers need to be trained as some of them did not follow the SOP. - Mkini
