Dine-in allowed under Klang Valley MCO but limited to 2 per table: Ismail

Dine-in at eateries and restaurants will still be allowed under the conditional movement control order (MCO) for Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya but will be limited to two people per table, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Nevertheless, he said, the rakyat were encouraged to buy food through takeaways, deliveries and drive-throughs as their primary option.

This new SOP will overwrite the one for Klang, which is already under the conditional MCO starting Oct 9. Previously, dine-in was not allowed for the district.

He also stressed that all economic activities, businesses and industries such as restaurants and sundry shops would be allowed to operate as usual although their business hours would be limited from 6am to 10pm.

This comes after it was announced yesterday that the government will re-impose a conditional MCO on Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya effective midnight today.

Ismail also explained that students in international schools or higher education institutes who are about to take their international examinations will be allowed to do so.

However, all other educational activities are still not allowed, he said.

Meanwhile, Ismail also echoed Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, who had yesterday said the move to re-impose conditional MCO on the Klang Valley was a proactive measure.

Ismail said there were some differences in the SOP for the conditional MCO announced for Sabah and for the one announced for the Klang Valley.

This is because the situations between the two areas are quite different, he said.

“In Sabah, we see almost half of the state are already red zones, whereas, in Selangor, it is a proactive measure taken by the government to prevent the further spread of Covid-19.

“Because we see there is a trend of increasing cases and we are worried that it will spread to other districts and areas.

“That is why we see (the SOP) is much tighter for Sabah than it is for Selangor,” he said.

Yesterday, the Selangor government had said it was surprised by the federal government’s decision to re-impose the conditional MCO on the state.

Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari had said only several districts in the Klang Valley were recording a worrying number of Covid-19 cases. - Mkini
