Every move must take into account people's interests, Najib reminds PN

Former premier Najib Abdul Razak has reminded the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government that every move made must take into account the interests of the people.

This is because the people are trapped by the present uncertain and unstable situation, he said, as speculations mounted over Putrajaya's plans to declare a state of emergency.

"Increasingly the people are trapped, traders are caught in a bind. Life is hard for many people. The situation is uncertain, unstable, not on the right path.

"Every move made must take into account the people's interest. Every decision made must also include the aspect of people's welfare," the Pekan MP said in a Facebook post today.

"Prioritise (the people's) welfare and provide a guarantee that they can continue their lives.

"Security and health are important but do not neglect the people's needs, prioritise them," he added.

His latest post is believed to be in reference to the political uncertainties surrounding the PN government under Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

Earlier today, the cabinet had agreed to the implementation of an "emergency" to tackle the worsening Covid-19 pandemic situation.

The decision was reached during a special cabinet meeting chaired by Muhyiddin in Putrajaya this morning.

The move also comes amid the ongoing political uncertainty in the nation with Muhyiddin facing pressure from internal and external forces.

Meanwhile, Najib further wrote that he had issued the same reminder to prioritise the people's needs during his own tenure as prime minister.

In his current position, Najib said he is only able to speak up on social media.

"Where I am able, I will continue to air my views.

"I want the people's voice to be heard and respected," he added.

Following the cabinet meeting, Muhyiddin had an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah at the palace in Kuantan.

So far no official announcements have been made on the status of the reported emergency proposal, which requires the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in order to be enforced. - Mkini
