KUCHING: The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee today announced that all public and private gymnasiums in Kuching will be closed with immediate effect while food outlets are only allowed to operate from 6am to 10pm, until further notice.

Its chairman, Douglas Uggah Embas said all social and official events will be restricted to a maximum of 200 people.

Sarawak reported a total of 27 Covid-19 cases today, including 15 close contacts of a man who tested positive on Monday (Oct 26), he said.

“There are 14 close contacts who tested positive in Kuching while one was in Miri.

“The man from Miri had visited the index case here and had returned to Miri on Oct 21 where he then had a sore throat, fever and cough,” Uggah said at a press conference today.

Uggah, who is also the deputy chief minister, said another six cases, involved those aged between 19 and 54, who had gone for Covid-19 swab tests at private hospitals.

“The remaining six cases were imported cases with patients who tested positive while undergoing their 14-day mandatory quarantine at designated centres,” he said.

Uggah said a new cluster has been identified as “Greenhill Cluster” in Kuching, with a total of 21 positive cases detected thus far.

Four other clusters remain active in Sarawak, namely, Bah Arnab Cluster, Putra Cluster, Baki Clusters, and Seladah Cluster.

Yesterday, the committee had classified Kuching as a red zone while all the reflexology and entertainment outlets in Sarawak had been ordered to close in the state government’s efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19. - FMT
