PKR has instructed its members not to hold gatherings in relation to party president Anwar Ibrahim's audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.
In a brief media statement this afternoon, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail also called on all Malaysians to keep calm.
“All PKR members are instructed not to hold gatherings or to gather at any location, especially along major roads towards Istana Negara.
“I also call upon all Malaysians to keep calm as this audience session takes place and to remain calm for any subsequent process that takes place thereafter.
“PKR reminds all of its MPs to continue rendering their service in their respective constituencies as well as to prioritise the people's fate and welfare during this Covid-19 pandemic,” Saifuddin added.
Last week, Anwar said he had been granted an audience with the Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, on Oct 13 and would present His Majesty with documentation of the “strong and convincing” support for him to form the federal government.
However, various quarters, including Umno lawmakers, have disputed the claim that Anwar possesses sufficient support to be the next prime minister.
Prior to this, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had revealed that numerous lawmakers from his party and BN were supporting Anwar.
Meanwhile, the police have summoned the PKR president over a purported list of 121 MPs who are allegedly backing him to become prime minister, which is making the rounds.
An investigation has been initiated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code over the spread of rumours that can cause fear and alarm to the public, which could induce a person to commit an offence against the state or to public tranquillity.
Several Umno lawmakers, including Arau MP Shahidan Kassim and Besut MP Idris Jusoh, have lodged police reports to deny their involvement in Anwar's countercoup after their names appeared on the purported list.
On Sept 23, a day after Sultan Abdullah was warded at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur, Anwar held a press conference to declare that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's reign had ended.
Following this, Istana Negara issued a statement that an audience was granted to Anwar and his wife, PKR advisor Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, on Sept 22 but this was cancelled due to the king's health condition.
Sultan Abdullah returned to Istana Negara following his treatment for food poisoning and sports-related injuries on Oct 2. - Mkini
