Kelantan PKR Youth has lodged a police report against Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin over allegations that the Bersatu president had wrongfully offered a position to an MP.
Its chief Muhd Hafiz Muhd Kasasi said the report lodged at the Kota Bharu district police station was made based on a statement and letter issued by Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, as shared on Facebook and Twitter.
"He (Tengku Razaleigh) published the letter on a vote of no confidence, and in the seventh paragraph also stated that he was offered the position of Petronas adviser by the prime minister.
"We found that this matter has raised the question of the integrity of a national leader. This move is also against the law and the constitution.
"Therefore, Kelantan PKR Youth has lodged a police report against Muhyiddin so that authorities can investigate the action seen as having an element of political bribery in order to remain in power," Muhd Hafiz told Malaysiakini.
Tengku Razaleigh had in an Oct 14 letter claimed that Muhyiddin had offered him the position of Petronas adviser that was traditionally held by the prime minister.
Tengku Razaleigh, however, said he had rejected the alleged offer out of concern that it contravened Article 48(1) of the Federal Constitution on disqualification for membership of Parliament if the person holds an office of profit.
He had further said the provision was put in place to prevent parliamentarians from showing support or casting their votes due to "political bribes".
Meanwhile, Muhd Hafiz said Kelantan PKR Youth regrets the alleged attempt by Muhyiddin to prolong his political survival.
"We hope this matter will be given attention and actions will be taken by the authorities," he said. - Mkini
