PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin trusts that the King will respond wisely to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's claims of having enough support to form the government.
In a press conference with journalists from local media organisations, Muhyiddin said he did not want to comment further about Anwar's meeting with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
"I will leave it to the King's best judgement as whatever decision he makes will be in accordance with the Federal Constitution," he said on Tuesday (Oct 13).
He also said he did not follow developments about Anwar's claims, adding that his main job now is to manage the Covid-19 situation as well as the people and the economy.
"When he was at Istana Negara, I was here meeting with the National Security Council," he said.
Earlier on Tuesday, Anwar had an audience with the King, during which he said he had informed the King that he had a "formidable majority" of support from MPs in his bid to be the next Prime Minister.
Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negara Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin later released a statement which said Anwar gave the King the numbers he claimed to have but did not give out the names of the MPs to verify his claim.
The King has also advised Anwar to follow and respect the legal process as stated in the Federal Constitution. - Star
