KUALA LUMPUR: A non-governmental organisation arrived at the Istana Negara today to call for the tabling of a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, a few hours before a special meeting by the Malay rulers is set to convene.

Gabungan Bertindak Memorandum Rakyat Malaysia (GBMRM) coordinator Mustafa Mansor said he had handed over a memorandum to the palace's public relations officer Mohd Husni Yusop at about 11am.

The memorandum outlined five main proposals seeking to, among others, for Muhyiddin to step down from office should he fail to substantiate his command of a parliamentary majority.

The memorandum was addressed to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

Mustafa said the first proposal was a request for the Agong to uphold the federal constitution in appointing the prime minister.

"Secondly, we request the Agong to use the power vested in Article 40(2)(b) of the Federal Constitution to prevent the dissolution of the parliament.

"Third, we request for the Agong to advise the prime minister to step down if he does not command the parliamentary majority," he said today when met at the Gate 2 of Istana Negara.

Mustafa also called for the Agong to reject proposals by several academicians to set up an interim government, a such a measure was not provided by the constitution.

He also opposed Dewan Rakyat speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun's alleged move to sidestep attempts to table the motion of no-confidence against Muhyiddin

"We urge the Agong to use the power stated in Article 55 of the Federal Constitution to allow the tabling of the motion, to see if Muhyiddin has the majority support or otherwise."
