COVID-19 | All travellers who arrive from Sabah at any state's entry points are now obligated to complete a 14-day home quarantine, said the Health Ministry.
Its director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the new order started being enforced on Sunday.
This came as the ministry found that the number of Covid-19 cases involving individuals who have recently visited Sabah continues to increase.
"For your information, today there are 23 clusters throughout the country which are linked to index cases who have travel history to Sabah.
"Although the MOH has started to carry out screening on all travellers who arrived from Sabah since Sept 27 and issued them Home Surveillance Order (HSO) until they are confirmed to be negative of the virus, cases and clusters involving this group continue to be recorded.
"Thus, to help in addressing this issue, and considering the spike in the number of Covid-19 cases in Sabah, all travellers arriving from Sabah are now required to undergo Covid-19 screening at all domestic and international entry points.
"They will be issued an HSO for 14 days, given a wristband each to wear (throughout the period) and they have to monitor their own health status using the MySejahtera's Home Assessment Tool," Noor Hisham said.
Between Sept 22 and today, the ministry recorded a total of 394 positive cases involving individuals who have a history of travelling from Sabah.
From that number, 228 of them (57.9 percent) were those who travelled from the state before Sept 27.
For the record, on Sept 27, the government started making it a requirement for all travellers from Sabah to be screened for Covid-19 upon arrival.
They would then be issued an HSO until they get their test results. Those tested positive would be taken to hospital, while for those who tested negative, they are divided into two categories.
Individuals tested negative, who have no close contact with a positive case and do not show any symptom, are allowed to end their quarantine but advised to complete the whole 14 days. For those who are negative but have either close contact or have symptoms of the virus, they would be required to undergo a full 14 days HSO.
Noor Hisham said since the enforcement of the screening order, the ministry has screened a total of 18,478 individuals with travel history from Sabah at entry points. - Mkini
