Former BN secretary-general Annuar Musa has expressed his disappointment with Bersatu leaders over the allegation that Umno had a secret unaudited bank account used to receive political donations.
He said Bersatu and other party leaders should not issue accusatory statements.
“It does not bring any good," he tweeted today.
The Ketereh MP also noted that as a supreme council member in Umno for 20 years, the party had never decided to open a confidential or secret account.
Annuar's remark came after the Bersatu supreme council member Dr Muhammad Faiz Na'aman urged the Registrar of Societies to probe a claim made in court regarding the matter.
Faiz said the revelation was a plain betrayal of the party's constitution and its members.
The allegation of the secret bank account was made by the prosecution in the government’s 1MDB-linked forfeiture suit against Obyu Holdings.
Umno had claimed that the money the government wanted to seize belonged to the party.
In a written submission rebutting this, the prosecution claimed that the account, which was unaudited, was used to receive political donations.
Subsequently, several Umno leaders including Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan claimed that they were in the dark over the alleged secret account.
"It is not to my knowledge that Umno has a secret account," he said. - Mkini
