PETALING JAYA: PPBM information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan has urged Perak Umno chief Saarani Mohamad not to issue statements that would disrupt the cooperation between the two parties, as well as PAS.
Wan Saiful said Saarani’s call for PPBM not to contest seats formerly won by Umno could affect the unity and cooperation achieved by the three parties.
PPBM, Umno and PAS are members of the Perikatan Nasional coalition.
Wan Saiful said his party had never raised the issue of seat allocations at the next general election.
“We always hold to the view that we should let this matter be resolved harmoniously at the negotiation table. Don’t let any of us be an agent of division. Let the top leadership of PPBM, PAS and Umno discuss the issue of seats,” he said. “The people are suffering now. Why talk about seats when people need help?”
Saarani reportedly said PPBM must refrain from contesting seats Umno won in 2018 if it wanted to continue working with his party in the state, adding that there would be no compromise on the matter.
He said the Sungai Manik and Tualang Sekah state seats as well as the Larut, Bagan Serai and Bukit Gantang seats were originally won by Umno members before its elected representatives jumped ship to PPBM.
“We won the seats previously. We will not give them to PPBM. There will be no compromise,” he said. - FMT
