PETALING JAYA: Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced that four locations in Perak and Terengganu will go under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO).
These are Felda Lasah and Kampung Besi Api in Kuala Kangsar, Perak, and also the TNB quarters construction site and Felda Tersat, both in Kuala Berang, Hulu Terengganu.
The EMCO at these areas will come into effect from tomorrow until Feb 17.
He said this follows advice and risk analysis by the health ministry after a hike in Covid-19 cases in these areas.
On action taken against those who had breached standard operating procedures yesterday, Ismail said police arrested 611 people, of which 601 were given compounds and 10 were remanded.
Among the offences were failure to wear face masks (145), crossing state or district borders without permission (109), flouting physical-distancing rules (107), failure to provide materials for contact tracing or registration (87), premises operating beyond permitted hours or despite not being allowed to operate (50), leaving the house without a valid reason (31), and others (82).
A total of 3,055 compliance task force teams were deployed to conduct checks on supermarkets, restaurants, hawker stalls, factories, banks, among others.
Ismail also said the police caught two illegal immigrants and seized three vehicles under Op Benteng. Enforcement officers had set up 536 roadblocks for monitoring yesterday. - FMT
