PETALING JAYA: A group of Malaysians “sick and tired” of the corruption pandemic in Malaysia have taken it upon themselves to fight back, with a people’s movement called Rasuah Busters.

Their leader is Karangkraf Media Group chairman Hussamuddin Yaacub who said a people’s movement is needed because corruption is spiraling out of control.

“It is our responsibility to stop this. We cannot wait for others. If we do not do anything, our value system will collapse further,” he told FMT.

He said the impact of the Covid-19 health crisis would be much worse if national assets are not well managed. The pandemic has caused hardship among Malaysians, with sudden job loss and pay cuts. “Other countries are also suffering but those which are well managed suffer less.”

Rasuah Busters will begin by creating awareness and empowering individuals from every strata of the society to fight corruption within their circles.

They will also launch a campaign to fight corruption at temples, mosques, the private sector including banking. “Individuals can be attached to an NGO, religious organisations or a company, they could empower others on the ill effects of corruption,” he added.

Hussamuddin hopes more people will join the movement.

He said it is a good time for the silent majority “disgusted with corrupt practices for years to join the movement” and to make a difference within their community.

The group’s movement is guided by the principles of the Rukun Negara and the Federal Constitution.

Social activitist Chandra Muzaffar has also called on Malaysians to support the people’s campaign against corruption.

He noted that a number of Malaysians with power and wealth have been tried and convicted for various forms of corruption over the years, a result of the intertwining of politics and business which began even before Merdeka.

Malaysians keen on joining the movement can do so by registering here while volunteers may join via email at rasuahbusters@gmail.com or WhatsApp at 019 3823635. - FMT
