Pertubuhan Minda dan Sosial Prihatin Malaysia president Ramesh Rao has pleaded not guilty to a charge based on his tweet that falsely linked the SRC International trial judge to former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He previously claimed that Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali, who ruled that former premier Najib Abdul Razak was guilty of seven charges related to the RM42 million SRC International case, was Mahathir's grandnephew.
The charge was read at the Taiping Sessions Court this morning under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities.
Bail was set at RM6,000 with one surety.
Sessions judge Zulhelmy Hassan fixed March 1 for further mention of the case.
Lawyer Shamsher Singh Thind appeared for Ramesh, while Sariza Ismail prosecuted.
The charge came six months after Bukit Aman's Classified Criminal Investigation Department launched a probe against Ramesh based on a report lodged by former Bersatu member Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rahman on July 30 last year.
Afzanizam, however, later clarified that he lodged the report when he was the Bukit Gantang Bersatu information chief. He is now the president of the Tun Mahathir Fan Club in Perak. - Mkini
