KUALA LUMPUR: Police will maintain all 550 roadblocks nationwide despite the relaxing of the 10km radius rule on travel.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said 276 roadblocks are currently set up at district borders with 274 others at state borders and for Ops Benteng.
"We will focus on the compliance with Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) after the government decided to do away with the 10km radius rule.
"While people may travel more than 10km from their homes, they are still not allowed to travel interstate or inter-district.
"So the police are still focusing on SOP compliance and the rule that only two individuals are allowed in a car in areas under the movement control order and conditional MCO," he said when contacted on Tuesday (Feb 16).
Acryl Sani said police deployment, including at roadblocks, is not meant to inconvenience the public but to curb the spread of Covid-19.
"The safety and security of the people are always our top priority," he said. - Star
