Thomas says no forum, Haniff to carry on

Haniff Khatri says he himself will only be attending the forum online and said Tommy Thomas could join him online any time after 10pm.

PETALING JAYA: Former attorney-general Tommy Thomas has snubbed an invitation by lawyer Haniff Khatri Abdulla to attend a dialogue and has instead told the lawyer to take down a WhatsApp image he put up saying the two of them would be at the dialogue.

Thomas, in an email reply to the organiser and operations director of Jom Channel, Mohamad Ali Omar, said that he is declining the invitation to attend today’s 8.30pm programme.

“Separately, I received the WhatsApp image (stating the two would be attending the dialogue) and I would like you to take immediate action to issue a corrective image and circulate it widely,” he said.

Haniff said there was nothing wrong about the image as it states that the dialogue would depend on Thomas’ confirmation.

He also explained that he will also not be attending the forum physically as his wife, a teacher, had come into contact with a Covid-19 positive student, and both are awaiting their results from a swab test. He said he will attend the forum online.

Haniff had earlier invited Thomas to an online dialogue titled “Between politics and law” to discuss Thomas’ recently released book “My Story: Justice in the Wilderness”.

The book has received mixed reviews from readers with some critics lodging police reports for defamation and others filing lawsuits.

Haniff added that Thomas could still change his mind about the dialogue and join any time after it starts.

“If he decides to attend online, he can contact Jom Channel for the link,” said Haniff to FMT. - FMT
