Anwar to meet MACC chief on Monday

 

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim will meet with MACC chief Azam Baki on Monday.

The opposition leader told reporters today that Azam had agreed to meet him at 3pm.

"I will bring the views of my comrades in PKR and Pakatan Harapan and express our concerns while supporting the MACC as a professional and independent body.

"I will also express our anxiety because some of us believe, with proof, that government agencies are being used as political weapons to stab (the government's) enemies," he told reporters in Permatang Pauh.

Anwar sought the meeting after five PKR lawmakers claimed to have been offered bribes to switch their allegiances.

There were also allegations that Kuala Langat MP Dr Xavier Jayakumar defected from PKR due to pressure over MACC investigations on him.

Jayakumar himself claimed the reason he defected was to ensure that the government remains stable and to avoid an election.

Two other PKR MPs also defected earlier this month with Tebrau MP Steven Choong claiming that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had promised him an official position in order to secure his allegiance.

The MACC previously denied Harapan’s allegation that it was being used as a “political weapon” in relation to defections. - Mkini
