PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a 29-year-old man who allegedly turned a Muslim woman apostate.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department chief Huzir Mohamed said the suspect was nabbed at 12.05pm. They also seized the suspect’s handphone.
The man had boasted his deed in a video that went viral.
He said police will seek to remand him tomorrow to carry out further investigation.
“We are in the midst of identifying others who may be involved in this case,” he said in a statement.
Huzir went on to caution the public against social media postings that could threaten the country’s harmony.
The case is being investigated for several offences including sedition and improper use of network facilities.
Last month, Johor police raided a house in Johor Bahru, after a video of a man who allegedly turned a Muslim woman apostate went viral on social media.
The viral video, which was 3-1/2 minutes long, showed the non-Muslim man claiming that his Muslim wife, a foreigner, had embraced Hinduism. - FMT
