Special financial assistance will be given to those who suffer serious side effects from the Covid-19 vaccine, said Health Minister Dr Adham Baba.
However, he stressed that this is a proactive measure from the government to face the possibility of adverse effects of using the vaccine.
"The government has agreed to give special financial assistance for the detrimental effects of the Covid-19 vaccine (Bantuan Khas Kewangan Kesan Mudarat Vaksin Covid-19) for anyone who received serious side effects from the Covid-19 vaccine," Adham (photo, above) said.
He spoke in a joint press conference today with Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, which was held in Putrajaya and broadcasted virtually through video conferencing.
For now, the government has set aside RM10 million for the purpose of the special financial assistance, Adham said.
Those who have serious side effects and require long-term hospital treatment due to the Covid-19 vaccination will be eligible to receive up to RM50,000.
Also, one can receive up to RM500,000 if the vaccination were to cause permanent disability or death.
Adham said three committees were formed to monitor and evaluate such cases, including determining whether there is a link between the vaccine and any illnesses.
The health minister said this proactive effort from the government is to care for the rakyat's welfare and increase confidence in getting vaccinated. - Mkini
