The federal government will decide tomorrow whether to implement "total lockdown" to stem the spread of Covid-19.
Speaking to reporters in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, today, de facto Law Minister Takiyuddin Hassan (above) said the National Security Council (NSC) will deliberate on this tomorrow. Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will chair the meeting.
"It is (one of the) measures which need to be deliberated upon by the NSC. Previously, we've had the movement control order (MCO), conditional MCO, and recovery MCO.
"It could be decided during the NSC meeting tomorrow, which will also involve all the menteri besar and chief ministers," he said.
Takiyuddin, who is also the Kota Bharu MP, was speaking to reporters after attending a meeting by the Kelantan chapter of the NSC.
He assured that the government was focusing all of its effort on the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Other lesser matters will be put on hold. Our focus is on the pandemic," he said.
Previously, Health Minister Dr Adham Baba revealed that his ministry was proposing a "full" MCO, alluding to further movement restrictions and suspension of more business activities.
However, Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz appeared dismissive of this.
Currently, the Health Ministry is grappling with a record number of patients in intensive care and requiring ventilators, putting the public healthcare system on the brink. - Mkini
