The Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to the Middle East Abdul Hadi Awang said over 40 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have joined the government to form the #Aid4Palestine secretariat, which aims to raise RM1 million that will be channelled to Palestine.
“We had a special discussion involving several community and NGO leaders to take proactive and immediate action to help Palestine in its fight.
“We have agreed to form the #Aid4Palestine secretariat, which will be chaired by Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi with the cooperation of over 40 NGOs.
“This secretariat will function as a coordinator for the network of NGOs and civil societies to run awareness campaigns among Malaysians about Palestine’s fight, as well as to coordinate the collection of #Aid4Palestine donations through crowdfunding, with a target of RM1 million which will be channelled directly to Palestine,” Hadi (above) said in a statement today.
So far, the first phase of donations which will be channelled to Palestine on May 22 has already reached RM350,000, thanks to the efforts of NGOs PASRelief, Yayasan Amal Malaysia, Muslim Care Malaysia Society, and Cakna Palestine Malaysia, he said.
Meanwhile, the second phase, with a minimum of RM650,000 will be open for donations until June 11.
Hadi, who is PAS president, said every Muslim should pressure the Israeli government to stop their cruelty and return the rights of the Palestinians.
There have been weeks of violent clashes in East Jerusalem between Israeli authorities and Palestinians, which saw the fighting in the Gaza Strip escalating over the past week. - Mkini
