A security guard, who was arrested at 11.20am yesterday morning in Gombak, Selangor died at 12.30pm, just an hour later, police said.
The man, aged 43, suffered breathing difficulty 20 minutes after his arrest when he was taken to the Gombak police district headquarters.
Police contacted Hospital Selayang for assistance and paramedics, who arrived in an ambulance and provided emergency care. However, the man was pronounced dead soon after, said Gombak police chief Arifai Tarawe in a statement.
Arifai said an early investigation showed the security guard was undergoing treatment for heart disease.
The death was classified as "sudden death" while a post-mortem by Hospital Kuala Lumpur is pending, he said.
Arifai said police arrested the man at a security guard post of a factory in Taman Selayang Baru, Gombak, after receiving a report of his whereabouts.
He said the man was arrested as he was wanted for a crime.
The case comes amid public outcry over the death of A Ganapathy, who died in police custody.
Citing autopsy findings, Ganapathy's lawyer K Ganesh said he died as a result of injuries while in police custody
He died at Selayang Hospital on April 18, more than a month after he was hospitalised.
Ganapathy was arrested to assist in an investigation against his brother.
His case has ignited a social media storm and public furore, reviving the call for an Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC).
Commenting on the latest death, Klang MP Charles Santiago called for all police personnel involved to be suspended.
"Time (for) an independent team including the Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) and the Enforcement Agencies Integrity Commission (EAIC) to investigate the death," he said on Twitter. - Mkini
