No, you can’t pick a private hospital for vaccination, says association

Vaccination registrations will still be done through MySejahtera, the private hospitals association said.

PETALING JAYA: The public would not be able to select a private hospital to be innoculated against Covid-19, the Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia said today.

“We hope no one rushes to these hospitals looking for an early opportunity to be vaccinated,” the association’s president, Dr Kuljit Singh said in a statement today.

He told FMT that he had received many queries when the news first broke. “They thought they could just walk in, register and get vaccinated.”

The government has said 12 private hospitals in three states would start operating as Covid-19 vaccination centres from tomorrow.

The hospital association said the vaccination procedure and process would remain the same as currently practised at public hospitals as registration is still through MySejahtera.

Only those entitled to be vaccinated in Phase 2 will be eligible without an option to pick their hospital or type of vaccine.

Kuljit said private hospitals in the vaccination programme would adhere to the guidelines of the special committee on vaccine supply.

Kuljit advised the public to register for the vaccination through MySejahtera.

He said the association was informed that there would be sufficient vaccines for more than 80% of the population by year end “though the supply is slow at the moment”.

“It’s unlikely that private vaccination in private hospitals will occur any time soon hence we suggest those who are waiting for it to stop doing so.”

The health ministry said the 12 private hospitals which will be vaccination centres are:

Nilai Medical Centre, Senawang Specialist Hospital, UCSI Hospital, KPJ Seremban Specialist Hospital and Mawar Medical Centre in Negeri Sembilan, Columbia Asia Hospital, KPJ Kuching Specialist Hospital, Rejang Medical Centre, Timberland Medical Centre and Borneo Medical Centre in Sarawak and KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital and MSU Medical Centre, both in Selangor. - FMT
