PKR delegates have been given the freedom to discuss any topic during the party's congress on June 5 and 6, party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.
He said this included the alleged audio clip of PKR president Anwar Ibrahim conversing with Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi over the Umno general assembly, which made headlines recently.
"The debates will be open to representatives of our state chapters, the women's wing and the youth wing. They can debate any topic. It's as wide as the earth and the sky.
"Delegates can discuss anything. It is the national congress after all. They should be given as much space as possible to air their views and criticisms," Saifuddin (above) added.
Both Anwar and Zahid denied the veracity of the audio clip, which was linked to possible collaboration between Umno and Pakatan Harapan, with the opposition leader claiming that it was released in an attempt by the government to stir up conflict among Umno leaders.
The PKR congress will be held at the Dewan Raja Muda Musa in Shah Alam, Selangor. About 1,000 delegates will be participating in person and online due to Covid-19 protocols.
This congress was supposed to be held last year but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The party elections are not slated to be held this year.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin gave his assurance that the unruly scenes seen during the 2018 congress would not be repeated.
"We noticed that the meetings at the division level were very smooth. All except two divisions had their meetings as of May 2.
"From the reports we have received, the party members are very focused on the coming elections and issues involving the people," he added. - Mkini
