Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku Rakyat Sabah (Star) has suspended its Putatan parliamentary constituency coordinator Philip Among amid separate allegations of assault and sexual misconduct.
The party’s disciplinary committee will also decide whether to suspend Philip’s (above) party membership or sack him outright in an upcoming meeting, said Star secretary-general Guan Dee Koh Hoi.
“These actions show that the party leadership is open to listening to grouses and complaints from all parties, particularly from Star members.
“Therefore, all Star supporters and members are urged to keep calm and refrain from any action that would muddle the situation,” Guan Dee said in a statement today.
According to Guan Dee, there are two police reports lodged against Philip that are making rounds on social media platforms.
One report was from an unduk ngadau (beauty pageant in conjunction with Kaamatan festival) participant who accused Philip of “lewd” actions.
The second report was from a Kadazandusun Cultural Association Sabah security guard who accused Philip of assaulting him.
Guan Dee said Star views these matters seriously and they will be dealt with in accordance with party rules.
Earlier today, the Malay Mail reported that a state-level unduk ngadau participant accused the organiser of touching her against her will.
The report did not name the alleged perpetrator but said it was a politician.
According to the news portal, the complainant purportedly lodged a police report on the matter on May 21, and a redacted version of the report has been circulating online.
The complainant claimed that the organiser asked her to meet him in his car for dinner after a photoshoot on May 19.
While in the vehicle, she claimed the organiser groped her on her thighs, back, neck, and hands though she repeatedly tried to stop him, before taking her to his former office where he continued to harass her.
The portal also quoted Sabah police commissioner Hazani Ghazali saying he could not confirm if the report circulated online was genuine, but said that an investigation would be conducted if it was. - Mkini
