Rawang assemblyperson Chua Wei Kiat has been appointed Selangor PKR Youth chief, replacing Najwan Halimi.
PKR Youth chief Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said he appointed Chua (above) after considering six candidates that were put forth during a meeting with 18 PKR Youth division heads.
This meant four PKR Youth division heads were not at the meeting, held last night.
In a statement today, Akmal said his main consideration for his decision was to ensure that PKR's ideology would be upheld and that Pakatan Harapan would emerge victorious in the next election.
Akmal said he also wanted to ensure that PKR Youth would produce more young leaders.
"Therefore, Chua, who is the Selayang PKR Youth chief, has been appointed as the Selangor PKR Youth chief.
"He will announce his new committee after discussions with the division heads," said Akmal.
Chua, 32, is a first-term lawmaker and former aide to Selayang MP William Leong.
Opponents of Najwan's removal have described the affair as a proxy war between PKR Youth leaders who are loyal to party president Anwar Ibrahim and former vice-president Rafizi Ramli.
Publicly, Rafizi has taken a step back from politics since failing to unseat Azmin Ali as the party deputy president in 2018. - Mkini
