Police have launched an investigation against a senior officer who allegedly made a death threat against a woman last week.
According to sources, the threat was allegedly made on Thursday during an argument involving a loan of RM100,000 which the woman claimed she gave to the deputy superintendent (DSP), purportedly for him to "buy" himself a promotion to the rank of superintendent.
Malaysiakini learnt that the officer attached to Negeri Sembilan state police headquarters' Crime Prevention and Community Policing Department had gone to a bak kut teh shop in Klang to meet the victim for a discussion over the loan.
The discussion, however, escalated into a heated argument before the DSP, who was accompanied by another man, allegedly a gang member, made the death threat.
"According to a report lodged by the 36-year-old victim, she tried to ask for her money back. And she claimed that when she wanted to leave the restaurant, the officer had threatened to kill her and her whole family," said a source.
The woman claimed that she was also slapped by the gang member, who made a similar threat on her life if she continued to demand her money back from the DSP.
It is learnt that the woman works as a court interpreter, and used to be romantically involved with the DSP, who is married.
Cops confirm two individuals arrested
Klang Utara district police chief Vijaya Rao Samachulu, when contacted, confirmed that police had received a report on the incident.
"The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, and Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation," he said.
Vijaya Rao said police have recorded statements from all the parties involved. However, he denied that the officer's friend is a gang member.
In a separate statement, Selangor police chief Arjunaidi Mohamed said police have arrested two individuals connected to the incident but did not mention whether the officer was one of them.
He also urged the public not to make any speculation or spread a copy of the police report as it is still under investigation.
"Selangor police give their assurance that investigation will be conducted transparently and thoroughly, and we will not compromise with anyone who breaks the law, even if the person is a member of this force," said Arjunaidi.
Meanwhile, Negeri Sembilan police chief Mohamad Mat Yusop, when contacted, said that action is also being taken by the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department. - Mkini
