Batu Kawan MP P Kasthuriraani has lashed out at government agencies for sending annual reports in individual pen drives and CDs to each MP in the Dewan Rakyat.
This came after she found most of the items being thrown away in Parliament's dustbins.
“Yesterday, the dustbin in Parliament was full of CDs and pen drives. All I could see is money in the dustbin,” she wrote on her Twitter today.
Kasthuriraani added that money-efficient methods should be used to replace the practice, as the reports could have been sent to MPs in a more tech-savvy manner.
She was responding to the tweet by Lukanisman Awang Sauni (PBB-Sibuti) earlier that raised the issue and tagged her in his tweet.
Lukanisman showed several pictures of his Parliament desk filled with pen drives containing annual reports from government agencies.
“Like CDs, giving USB drives is also a small waste (of funds) even though it can be used as a bootable USB for Windows or Ubuntu (operating systems), (but) reports can just be downloaded.
“I dedicate this tweet to P Kasthuriraani, the lady who raised this issue three years ago,” he tweeted.
More MPs also chimed in after Lukanisman’s tweeted about the issue.
“Cannot agree more YB, my desk is full. I can make a rainbow collection,” Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Independent-Muar) joked in response.
Steven Sim (DAP-Bukit Mertajam) also agreed with Lukanisman’s tweet, saying people are currently living in the age of cloud computing and added his own suggestion.
“I suggest the government arranges these files (together) so they can be downloaded from the Parliament portal, instead of letting people find them on each agency’s website,” Sim said.
