Covid-19 (Oct 16): 7,509 cases

 

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 7,509 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,384,542.

They were surpassed by 9,531 recoveries.

• Patients in ICU: 695
• Intubated: 347

As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 10.6 percent lower compared to a week ago.

Those who require intubation have also declined by 17.0 percent from a week ago. 

Beginning Oct 9, the Health Ministry will only publish today's breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.

The breakdown by states for yesterday (Oct 15), where 7,420 new cases were reported, is as follows:

The new Covid-19 cases yesterday saw a slight uptick in Negeri Sembilan and Putrajaya where fresh infections were the highest in a week but are still significantly improved from previous highs.

Selangor and Sarawak remain the top two states in terms of fresh infections.

Clusters

To date, 702 Covid-19 clusters are still active, including 9 new clusters reported today.

The ongoing clusters have fallen by 16.9 percent from the 845 active clusters a week ago.

The 9 new clusters today comprised four workplace clusters (44.4 percent), two non-education ministry institution clusters (22.2 percent), one education ministry institution cluster (11.1 percent), one community cluster (11.1 percent) and one high-risk group cluster (11.1 percent).
