A traditional medicine practitioner who allegedly preyed sexually upon his female patients has been detained after a soon to be married victim lodged a police report.
The 23-year-old victim had sought treatment for a spiritual disorder from the 67-year-old suspect.
Pasir Mas District Police Chief ACP Nasaruddin Md Nasir said that on Oct 14, the alleged victim and her mother and future husband went to the suspect’s house in Tendong, Pasir Mas, about 3pm.
He said that upon arrival at the scene, the victim was taken to the treatment room by the suspect’s wife and the suspect and victim were then left alone.
“While in the treatment room, the suspect began to molest the victim and eventually raped her,” said Nasaruddin.
“Upon completion of the ‘treatment’, the suspect warned her not to speak of the incident to anyone and asked the victim to come again for follow-up treatment,” he said at a press conference at the Pasir Mas District Police Headquarters, Kelantan, today.
He added that following the report made by the victim, the police arrested the suspect on the same day.
He said the suspect was a retired driver who had been carrying out traditional treatment activities since 1985.
“The suspect is now remanded for seven days from Oct 16-22, while the case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code.
“Preliminary investigation found that the suspect’s modus operandi was to make female patients victims of his lust and we believe this incident is not the first time it has happened but it was not reported to the police in the past,” he added.
Nasaruddin also called on any individual who had been preyed upon by the man to come forward and lodge a police report.
“People are also advised to be careful when undergoing any treatment and report to the authorities in the event of a criminal incident,” he said. - Mkini
