State Public Works, Transportation and Infrastructure Committee chairman Mohd Solihan Badri said before Monday, the average number of vehicles entering southern Johor stood at about 36,500 a day.
"Between Oct 11 and 16, the average rose to about 46,200 a day, which is an increase of 29.77 per cent.
"As for the number of vehicles leaving southern Johor, the number rose from 36,000 a day to 46,800 a day, which is a 30 per cent increase," Solihan said in a statement.
He said the number was recorded at the three main entry points to southern Johor, namely the Kulai, Senai Utara and Skudai toll plazas.
"I expect the number to continue to rise, especially during the upcoming Deepavali which will be celebrated on Nov 4," said Solihan.
He reminded all road users to be careful when driving, to always follow the speed limit and to ensure that their vehicles are in good condition.
"Everybody should also continue to adhere to the standard operating procedures, especially at R&R areas, since we are not free of Covid-19 yet," said Solihan.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had earlier announced inter state travel would resume from Oct 11 after the country's vaccination rate reached 90 per cent. - NST
