KUALA LUMPUR: Plus Malaysia Bhd is anticipating a 'Pulang ke Bandar exodus on Tuesday and has advised motorists to plan their journey wisely, using the Plus app where traffic conditions at various highway locations can be viewed.
Its head of strategic stakeholder engagement Syed Mohammed Idid Syed Ahmad Idid said they were not expecting an exodus today because of the public holiday on Tuesday to mark the Maulidur Rasul celebrations.
He said that on Friday and Saturday, traffic recorded stood at over 1.4 million vehicles nationwide, which was an increase of more than 10 per cent from their earlier projection of 1.3 million.
"So far so good. There have not been any major issues and no heavy congestion has occurred. There was only slight congestion due to the influx of vehicles but we are nevertheless prepared.
"Pre Covid-19 pandemic, we had 1.7 million vehicles daily so the 1.4 million vehicles now are manageable. The PlusRonda and the safety management crew are all on the ground and it is business as usual," he told the New Straits Times today.
He advised motorists to download the Plus app which features live traffic feed via closed-circuit television cameras which enables one to pre-plan and guesstimate their time of departure and journey ahead.
He added that it was best for motorists to stagger their travelling hours and use the app as well as Waze or Google Maps to check on traffic conditions.
Syed Mohammed Idid said the situation at its rest and relaxation (R&R) service areas was under control where they are working closely with the police to ensure the compliance of various Covid-19 preventive measures by the people.
"In a pioneering collaboration, the Selangor police contingent has also deployed its mobile police unit at the Sungai Buloh overhead bridge restaurant. They will check the vaccination status of the customers on the MySejahtera app.
"So far, no one has been summoned for violating the standard operating procedures (SOP). The police are there not to penalise anyone but their priority is to ensure that everyone is safe.
"We are thankful the police are helping us. At the end of the day, the buzzword is self-compliance. Those travelling are also cautious and adhering to the SOP," he said.
He also recommended customers who want to avoid crowds or are unable to dine-in at the R&R eateries use the Plus app's Pre-Order feature to order food to be picked up.
Since interstate travel was permitted earlier this week, the traders at several R&R's informed that business rose over 50 per cent, he said. - NST
