PETALING JAYA: Just hours before campaigning for the Melaka polls came to an end, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu slammed PAS for its “flip-flop attitude” on the appointment of women to top posts.
He said the Islamist party had previously objected to PKR’s Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as a Selangor menteri besar candidate but was now agreeable to Perikatan Nasional’s choice of Mas Ermieyati Samsudin as the chief minister-designate.
Mat Sabu, as he is known, said PAS’ stand had forced Pakatan Rakyat to appoint Mohammed Azmin Ali to replace Khalid Ibrahim in Selangor.
“But in Melaka, they agreed to Mas Ermieyati. There are too many flip flops from them,” he said during PH’s final ceramah which was held online.
The Kota Raja MP also spoke on corruption by political leaders and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s credibility.
“Voters must be brave to make changes. The Sheraton Move (which brought down the PH government) was an evil move as it was done without elections,” he added.
Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob was a weak leader, he said, but the opposition had agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) as they did not want to change the government midway again.
Sabu and the other PH leaders also asked the electorate to vote for them as the other two coalitions – PN and BN – were constantly fighting with each other.
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said voters should choose a coalition that was united to ensure stability.
“We do not want to play on race or religious issues. We want to help all with proper economic policies,” he said.
Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim urged voters not to vote for corrupted leaders or those only keen in filling their pockets.
He said he had been talking to Melaka voters and heard their concerns over the Covid-19 crisis during the elections.
“Umno does not respect the mandate of the rakyat and the rakyat are forced to face elections,” Anwar said, urging voters outside Melaka to return and cast their votes. - FMT
