The Terengganu government today launched the state legislative assembly digital library to improve the quality of debates and service among its assemblypersons.
State assembly speaker Yahaya Ali said the library, developed in collaboration with the Terengganu State Public Library Corporation (PPAT), was the first of its kind in Malaysia and a state legislative reform to make the institution more inclusive.
"Apart from information on the assembly meeting from the time the state legislative assembly was established (1959) until today, the library also provides various research materials related to the state legislative process.
"With the introduction of the digital library, information is just at your fingertips and this will facilitate assemblypersons to make references anywhere and at any time," he said after the launch of the digital library by Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar at Wisma Darul Iman, today.
Yahaya (above) added that the library would be improved through several phases but for a start, it could only be accessed by state assemblypersons and will be extended to the public later.
He said the digital library was in line with the state government's aspiration to become a digital government by 2030 according to the Terengganu Smart Digital Government Master Plan 2021-2030.
"I hope this facility will be fully utilised and will be of great help to the councillors. We are also fortunate because apart from information related to the state legislative assembly, PPAT has given us access to certain applications and digital materials,” he added.
