PAS has suggested that the government hold discussions with opposition parties, among other measures, to overcome the issue of the rising cost of living.
The party’s information chief, Khairil Nizam Khirudin, urged Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to address the issue in a holistic manner immediately before it gets worse.
“We should hold discussions with all party chiefs, including those from the government and the opposition, to find the best possible solution to deal with the rise in the cost of living and prices,” he said in a statement today.
He also suggested that monthly cash handouts be distributed to B40 citizens and a segment of M40 people to buy basic daily needs by crediting the money into their identity cards or e-wallets.
“This step is in line with the principles of Islam. The government must collect and divide riches in a fair manner.
“The distribution of these targeted monthly cash handouts will help lower the burden of the public, who have been severely affected by the rising prices and cost of living crisis.
“A special parliamentary session should also be held so that the issue can be discussed in a micro manner and the views and suggestions of MPs who are closer to the people in the constituencies can be gathered.
He also urged all political leaders to devote their energy and contribute ideas in the effort to help the government solve the increased cost of living that is being faced by the public.
“Improving the wellbeing of the rakyat should be the priority during tough times like these and political leaders should forget about arguments that are harmful to the country,” he said. - Mkini
