Hadi: Offer to join federal government not recent

After many denials from the government regarding an offer to PAS to work with it, party president Abdul Hadi Awang today explained that the invitation was not made recently.

Instead, he explained that the offer he received to join the government was made immediately after the 15th general election (GE15).

"(The offer to join the government was made) After the election. There is no new one," Hadi (above) said during a press conference in conjunction with the Terengganu International Summit 2023.

He was commenting on the latest developments regarding when the offer to PAS to join the unity government was made.

The Marang MP said PAS will not accept the offer at all and will remain loyal to Perikatan Nasional.

"We reject (the offer to join the unity government). We will continue with PN and we invite other parties to join us because we are dominant with the people, so the strength is with us," he said.

Hadi previously claimed that he was contacted several times by "certain people" who offered PAS a place in the unity government.

The PAS supremo said he had questioned the offer, saying it should give an "advantage to PAS" because the party has more parliamentary seats than any other party.

However, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi denied the claims and told Hadi to stop daydreaming.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also said that neither he nor any government leader had made such an offer.

In other developments, Hadi expressed confidence in his Islamist party continuing to govern the states that the party holds, Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah.

This is despite the relatively poor economic performance of the likes of Kelantan, which lags badly in terms of economic growth compared to other states.

The Marang MP said that with the “green wave” seen in the last GE, he was also confident of capturing Selangor from Pakatan Harapan.

"I see the performance achieved by the states we administer is very interesting.

"We saw this wave of people happening in the last election. People had rejected other parties and supported us, and this wave is still there today, especially among young voters.

"Selangor is also the same because we won several seats and God willing, we will win the state assembly," he added.

The state elections involving six states, namely Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah, Selangor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan, are expected to be held between June and July once the state assemblies are dissolved. - Mkini
