A recent graduate was charged at the Sabak Bernam Magistrate Court today with murdering his pregnant girlfriend on May 22.
Muhammad Fakrul Aiman Sajali, 20, was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty.
He did not enter a plea before Magistrate Siti Hajar Ali as murder cases are tried at the High Court, the New Straits Times reported.
He is accused of killing Nur Anisah Abdul Wahab, 21, between 8.30pm on May 22 to 8am on May 23, at Jalan Sungai Limau, Sungai Besar, in the Sabak Bernam district.
He was represented by Khairul Anuar Kashim and Muhammad Nor Tamrin, while deputy public prosecutor Ku Hayati Ku Haron prosecuted the case.
Khairul Anuar requested that the case be transferred to the High Court as soon as possible, but the magistrate said there were still documents that needed to be submitted from the prosecution's case, NST reported.
The case mention is set for Aug 3.
The case made headlines after police arrested a man after discovering a charred body at an oil palm plantation in Sungai Besar.
The body was found to have been stabbed in the abdomen, and a fetus was removed from the body.
The deceased, a waitress, was believed to be four months pregnant, police said.
Sabak Bernam police chief Agus Salim Mohd Alias told the media the couple had arguments over how to conceal the out-of-wedlock pregnancy.
The accused told investigators he returned to the crime scene the morning after stabbing his girlfriend to death to burn the body in order to destroy evidence.
An autopsy by the Sungai Buloh Hospital found she died of stab wounds to the chest. - Mkini
