We’re not aiming for Bersatu’s seats, says Selangor PAS leader

Roslan Shahir, however, did not rule out the possibility of a mutual exchange of seats in Selangor between PAS and Bersatu.

PETALING JAYA: Selangor PAS secretary Roslan Shahir has denied a claim that the Islamic party was looking to contest seats held by Bersatu in the upcoming state election.

“The principle (agreed upon) is to defend the seats (of the respective parties). That’s the formula.

“So there is no issue of PAS wanting (to contest) in any seat held by our coalition partner,” Roslan told FMT.

He was asked to comment on media reports which quoted Perikatan Nasional (PN) sources as saying that PAS was eyeing the Gombak Setia state seat, which is currently held by Bersatu’s Hilman Idham.

However, Roslan did not rule out the possibility of a mutual exchange of seats.

“If there is a request to contest in a seat previously won (by the other PN component), then it can still be entertained based on a mutual agreement.”

Asked about the progress of seat negotiations between Selangor PN parties, Roslan said it is expected to be concluded early this month. “No big issues and everything’s going smoothly,” he added.

Hilman won the Gombak Setia seat on a Pakatan Harapan (PH) ticket in the 2018 general election (GE14) after garnering 12,399 votes, defeating the candidate from PAS (11,758 votes) and Barisan Nasional (11,113 votes).

Bersatu currently holds the Bukit Antarabangsa, Selat Klang and Dengkil state seats while PAS has Sijangkang.

Selangor has a total of 56 state seats. - FMT
