IPOH: The Kampar district council (MDKpr) has refuted allegations that its enforcement officers stole livestock from a private enclosure.

MDKpr president Ahmad Suqairy Alias clarified that its enforcement officers had seized two buffaloes on April 23 as they had strayed into the compound of Kolej Tunku Abdul Rahman in Bandar Baru Kampar.

“That operation was conducted in response to complaints from the Kolej Tunku Abdul Rahman management regarding stray cattle and buffaloes wandering into the college area. On that day, two buffaloes were caught.

“The Kampar district council vehemently denies the allegation and maintains that the seizure was made in the Kolej Tunku Abdul Rahman compound in Bandar Baru Kampar,” he said in a statement today.

He said it was MDKpr’s duty to deal with stray animals to ensure the safety of road users and the well-being of residents.

Yesterday, a group of cattle and buffalo farmers filed a police report claiming that their livestock from a pen in a private area was taken by MDKpr based on video footage they obtained.

Speaking on behalf of the breeders, Yusof Yasin, 65, said a police report was made last Wednesday at the Kampar police headquarters regarding the incident on April 23 when two buffaloes belonging to a breeder went missing.

Kampar police chief Nazri Daud, when contacted, confirmed that police received a report related to the incident on April 24 and the case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.

Ahmad Suqairy said MDKpr would cooperate fully in the police investigation. - FMT
