PETALING JAYA: Blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris, whose alter ego is believed to be Papagomo, will be charged for sedition at the Kuala Lumpur sessions court tomorrow.

His lawyer, Rafique Rashid Ali, said Wan Azri is currently being held at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

“At around 9.15 pm, I received information from the investigating officer that a directive to charge him (Wan Azri) had been issued,” Rafique said in a statement.

He said Wan Azri would be charged under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, where he could face a maximum of RM5,000 fine or imprisonment of up to three years, or both, if convicted.

Yesterday, FMT reported that the police had arrested Wan Azri for allegedly making seditious remarks against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain confirmed that Wan Azri was arrested at his residence in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur.

Razarudin said the case was being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Wan Azri is believed to have made the remarks in a two-minute and 46-second video in which he questioned the king’s decision to grant an audience to KK Mart owner Chai Kee Kan.

In the same video, he also allegedly claimed that the king had ordered Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard, to be charged in court under the Sedition Act. - FMT
