PETALING JAYA
Selangor PKR Youth underwent a reshuffle last week as its current chief is eyeing a top post at the party’s central level, according to a party source.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the PKR leader said the reshuffle was to consolidate Izuan Kasim’s position ahead of the upcoming party polls.

Izuan is likely aiming for the number two position at the central level, hence a new deputy, Iman Haziq Mohd Hamizi, has been appointed for the Selangor youth chapter,
 the source said.

Iman Haziq will be (appointed) Selangor PKR Youth chief at the party polls scheduled for next year.

Others taking up new positions include M Sivabalan (vice-chief 1), Christopher Ong (vice-chief 2), Afif Abdullah (secretary-general), and Noor Atillah Abdullah Sani (information chief).

In a statement last week, Izuan said the reshuffle was aimed at fine-tuning Selangor PKR Youth’s operations.

He also said the reshuffle was in line with PKR Youth’s rules, which allow for such changes when deemed necessary to strengthen the organisation.

When contacted, Izuan, the Kota Damansara assemblyman, said he was open to contesting the top post at PKR Youth.

For the next election, I’ll have to gauge the level of support I get from the grassroots. I won’t turn down a chance to serve,
 he said.

He said that although he had garnered the most votes in the contest for the post of PKR vice youth chief at the party’s polls in 2022, he lost the position after an audit was conducted on the results.

‘Interesting’ battle for top spot

The source said the battle for the top post at PKR Youth would be

interesting
as current PKR deputy youth chief Kamil Munim turns 35 next year.

As a result, Kamil, who serves as Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s political secretary at the finance ministry, would not be able to mount a challenge for the position of PKR Youth chief.

Anwar, the PKR president, is also the finance minister.

The source said that according to PKR’s constitution, only those aged below 35 can contest posts in the youth wing.

Unless the party amends its constitution, Kamil will not be eligible for the top post,
 he said.

Another likely contender for the top post would be Sungai Petani MP Dr Taufiq Johari.

Current PKR Youth chief, Adam Adli, will also be ineligible to contest as he turned 35 earlier this month. - FMT
