Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Christina Liew has been appointed Sabah PKR political bureau chief.
Sabah PKR chairperson Mustapha Sakmud confirmed the matter in a statement today, Daily Express reported.
“This appointment is a process to complete the party’s organisational structure, involving balanced and comprehensive representation from branch representatives of various races and religions,” he said.
With its new leadership, the party is prepared to face the state election which can be called at any time, he added.
On June 2, Sabah PKR announced a leadership revamp, confirming Mustapha as chairperson and Inanam assemblyperson Peto Galim as his deputy.
This followed the earlier announcement that the heads and deputies of PKR chapters for Sabah, Pahang, Johor, Terengganu, Kelantan and the Federal Territories had been changed.
Liew was Sabah PKR chief from 2016 to 2022.
In January 2022, 16 division leaders boycotted a Sabah PKR meeting in protest of Liew’s (above) leadership as the then-state PKR chief.
At the time, party president Anwar Ibrahim advised that Liew, who is Api-Api assemblyperson, be retained as the state chief until the incoming party election to better focus on preparing for the 15th general election. - Mkini
