Police have arrested one person concerning the death of a TikTok user who allegedly died by suicide after being bullied online.
Sentul district police chief Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari confirmed the arrest in a press statement today.
“At around 1.45am on July 8, police arrested one of the suspects, a 35-year-old local woman, believed to be involved in this case.
“The suspect is remanded at Sentul district police headquarters for three days starting today to assist in investigations,” he said.
According to him, the case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for dissemination of offensive statements, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for insulting behaviour.
Threats and intimidation
Previously, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil had said the case had been referred to the police for investigation.
Fahmi explained that although the victim had previously lodged a complaint with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, the complaint was unrelated to the cyberbullying incident believed to have led to her death.
Further commenting, Sukarno said the arrest was made following a police report on July 6 regarding threats made through TikTok against a social media influencer known as Rajeswary (Esha).
“(The complainant) saw two posts on TikTok by accounts named Dulal Brothers and TikTok Alphaquinnsha containing slander and threats against Rajeswary (Esha).
“Both TikTok accounts used Rajeswary’s (Esha) picture as the background for the videos uploaded to their respective accounts,” he said.
He added that the content also contained threats and intimidation towards Rajeswary (Esha), as well as vulgar and obscene language.
“Police checks found that the accusations and slander reported were evident based on the screenshots provided by the complainant to the police, although the posts are believed to have been deleted by the owners of both TikTok accounts.
“Kuala Lumpur police advise the public not to indiscriminately upload any articles or content that could cause anxiety and unrest among the community.

The World Health Organisation considers suicide a public health issue but says it is preventable with proper intervention.
