PETALING JAYA
Perikatan Nasional said today it has resolved the disagreement between Gerakan and PAS about the involvement of breweries in fundraising for Chinese-medium schools.

PN secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said

everything has been settled
 after a discussion.
In a Facebook post, he said:
Minor disputes within the family are common. Everything was resolved after a discussion among ‘siblings’.

His post also included a photograph showing him with fellow PN leaders. Seen in the photograph are Gerakan president Dominic Lau, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu and Malaysian Indian People’s Party president P Punithan.

The Gerakan-PAS conflict started when PAS criticised a deputy minister for accepting a RM3 million mock cheque displaying a Tiger Beer logo at a fundraiser for a Chinese school in Selangor.

Lau then came to the defence of the vernacular schools’ fundraising system, while Gerakan deputy president Oh Tong Keong said the party would not hesitate to leave PN if its allies continued to display religious extremism and infringe on the rights of non-Muslims.

In response, PAS vice-president Amar Abdullah said the party had no objections if Gerakan was to quit, while PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said the party might not be able to work with Gerakan at the next general election if it maintained its position.

However, PAS vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar later told Sinar Harian the party had no plans to reconsider its cooperation with Gerakan, while Lau also tried to diffuse the situation by stating that such disagreements are a

normal part of life
