I wasn’t in Changi Airport as blogger claimed, Guan Eng’s son tells court

KUALA LUMPUR: 

Lim Guan Eng’s son Clint told the High Court that he was not at Changi Airport on Feb 29, 2020 — the day he was alleged to have been arrested in Singapore for smuggling RM2 million in cash.

Clint said he was already in Singapore on Feb 20 that year.

It was a Saturday (on Feb 29, 2020) and I was probably at home or with my friends,

 Clint said in his testimony.

Clint and Guan Eng jointly filed a lawsuit against controversial blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris after the latter spread 

false accusations

 that Clint had been detained while trying to smuggle RM2 million in cash into Singapore.

Wan Azri had also alleged that Guan Eng had flown to the island on Feb 29, 2020 to 

save his son

.

Both father and son are seeking damages from Wan Azri, who is a former Umno Youth exco member.

Clint added that he never cheated any businessman in Malaysia, as alleged by Wan Azri.

I was working in Singapore from 2019 to 2021 and had no business dealings in Malaysia (during the material time),

 he said.

To a question by Wan Azri’s lawyer, Logen Eskander Abdullah, on whether he lodged a police report or complaint with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission against Wan Azri, Clint said he did not.

I left it to my father (to do that),

 he added.

Earlier today, Guan Eng continued his testimony and said that Wan Azri’s Facebook post was the 

source

 of the false information about Clint’s 

arrest

.

However, Logen disputed Guan Eng’s testimony, saying there were other social media users who posted the allegation before Wan Azri did.

Logen: So did you sue the wrong party?

Guan Eng: I don’t think so, I sued the right person.

Logen then asked Guan Eng about his statement on Wan Azri implicating his son in a sexual harassment case.

The lawyer then pressed Guan Eng repeatedly on why he did not file a suit back then. This irked Guan Eng, prompting him to call Logen a liar.

Logen then demanded Guan Eng retract his statement and Judicial Commissioner Eddie Yeo reminded everyone to observe decorum in court.

Witness (Guan Eng), please retract the word ‘liar’ directed at the defendant’s lawyer,

 Yeo said.

Guan Eng complied with the court’s instruction.
