Four days ago on 6th August 2024 the Ukraine Army sent 1,000 troops to their death across the border into Russia. The 1,000 Ukrainians suddenly dashed across the border in 100 tanks, trucks and IFVs in the Kursk region inside Russia.
Judging by the speed and their non-stop motion it became obvious that they were headed for the Kursk Nuclear Power plant. (Red dot circled in blue in the map above and the picture below). Red line is the Russian border.
Well they never made it.

Initially the Russians were caught offguard but they recovered quickly and have been hammering the intruders since. By yesterday 9th August, 650 of the Ukrainian troops had been killed or taken out of action.

By any measure this was a harebrained idea. Doomed to fail at the cost of 1,000 Ukrainian lives. If the Ukrainians had captured the nuclear power plant it would have been a huge PR victory. And then what? What would they have done with a captured nuclear power plant? Maybe take free X-ray selfies of themselves?
Folks, dont you want to know if there are any nuclear power plants along the India-Pakistan border? The Modis and the Shariffs may be going to war again.
Russian prime minister Dmitri Medvedev (an ultra hawk) has called for a more aggressive Russian advance to take Kiev (the capital of Ukraine) and put an end to this war. There will certainly be some rethink of President Putin's "war of attrition" strategy where Russian troops are edging forward surely but very slowly.
In the meantime another 1,000 Ukrainians have been sacrificed.
