GUA MUSANG: Umno has issued a letter of demand to Rembia assemblyman Jailani Khamis seeking RM100 million in damages and compensation for his defection to PAS.
said Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who is also the BN chairman. The letter of demand has been issued to him to pay RM100 million to BN (Barisan Nasional),
He did not specify when the letter of demand was sent or how long Jailani has to respond.
Last September, Umno suspended Jailani’s membership for six years over his attendance at two Johor by-election events by Perikatan Nasional. Last month, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan announced that Jailani had joined the Islamic party in June 2023.
Jailani had been elected in Rembia in 2018 on a PKR ticket. He joined Umno in 2021 and was re-elected on a BN ticket.
Zahid said all BN candidates are required to sign a RM100 million bond and are bound by an agreement not to leave the party.
BN’s candidate for the Nenggiri by-election, Gua Musang Umno Youth chief Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani, would also have to pay Umno RM100 million if he wins the by-election and then joins another party, he said.
Jailani has previously said he is ready to contest the matter in court. - FMT
