Children in alleged abuse videos rescued, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: 

Police have rescued the children who were seen in viral videos being allegedly abused while under the care of welfare homes purportedly managed by Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH).

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said four siblings, aged between six and 11, were rescued in Tapah, Perak, during Phase 4 of Op Global.

The children had been separated from their father since 2021.

One of the children was the one seen in a viral video being caned by a GISBH member,

 he told a press conference today.

In a related incident, Razarudin said police saved a child seen in another viral video that showed him being stepped on while the man recording the video repeatedly asked him in a harsh tone why he was crying.

The child has been placed in the paediatric ward for further examination,

 he said.

Both cases are currently being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

All suspects involved have been remanded to assist in the investigations,

 Razarudin added.

He also said the health ministry’s initial examinations confirmed that the children showed signs of abuse.

GISBH is currently the focus of a police investigation after they raided 20 welfare homes in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, which the authorities had linked to the organisation.

The raids saw 402 children being rescued and police investigations showed that at least 13 of the children were allegedly sodomised or taught to sexually assault others.

GISBH has denied the allegations and any links to the case.

Since then, 155 people have been arrested, with 102 men and 84 women also rescued from premises linked to GISBH. - FMT
