MIC sec-gen: Talks with PN don't mean withdrawing support for Anwar

MIC said informal talks with Perikatan Nasional do not mean the party will pull support from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Party secretary-general S Ananthan said MIC will continue to support Anwar until the end of his government’s term.

“MIC has indeed held informal discussions with PN. But that doesn’t mean we will withdraw support for the prime minister before the end of the unity government’s term. The issue of retracting support for the prime minister should not arise.

“MIC stands by its previous position of respecting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decree to support the unity government,” Ananthan told Malaysiakini.

He said this when asked to comment on MIC president SA Vigneswaran confirming that the party is talking to PN about the party's future direction.

MIC - which has one Parliament seat - has been exploring the possibility of leaving BN.

This is as negotiations between BN and its partner Pakatan Harapan on potential seats for the next general election are based on the incumbency principle, which means MIC will have limited opportunities to rebuild its presence in Parliament. - Mkini
